1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup cocoa
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
PREPARATION:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs to creamed mixture. Mix together
cocoa and hot water. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder,
and salt. Add flour mixture alternately with cocoa mixture to creamed
ingredients, beating well.
Stir in vanilla. Bake chocolate cake at 350° for about 35 to 45 minutes,
or until a wooden pick or cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.
(Bake in greased and floured pans; two round layers or a 13x9x2-inch pan.)
